CM2 - Medical Assistant
Duties:
The Medical Assistant (MA) is key in assisting the physician with basic patient care and medical procedures by obtaining and documenting accurate, concise patient history and current chief complaint. They perform patient services as requested which may include but is not limited to phlebotomy, obtaining EKG’s, collecting and processing specimens, as well as perform patient vital signs and other care as needed. Medical assistants are to make all patients feel comfortable by treating them in a courteous, kind, friendly and professional manner.
Primary responsibilities:
- Performs all general medical assisting duties, according to state guidelines
- Politely greets, identifies oneself and escorts patient(s) into exam room
- Interviews patients and documents a chief complaint, past and present medical history, social history, family history, medication history, measures and records a minimal of three vital signs - all by following evaluation and management guidelines
- Records and signs all pertinent information in the patient's electronic chart
- Instructs patients in collection of samples and tests. Collects, accurately labels and forwards specimens for laboratory analysis
- Prepares patients and assists physician(s) with examination, treatments, and procedures
- In accordance with medical assisting standards and physician directives, prepares medications and injections after verifying correct dosage
- Observes, records and reports patient's condition and reaction to drugs and treatments
- Sterilizes instruments for tests according to established procedures
- Thoroughly cleans equipment and examination rooms prior to use
- Demonstrates thorough knowledge of infection control procedures; strictly adheres to policies and procedures, washes hands before and after each patient contact
- Notifies patients of test results, as directed by the Provider
- Instructs and arranges for patient testing and admissions
- Responds to and handles incoming Provider telephone calls accordingly
- Educates patients regarding medication and treatment instructions
- Explains and distributes patient education material
- Answers all patient questions
- Documents fees, level of service and diagnosis to patients charge ticket, if not completed by the Provider
- Escorts patient or directs patient to the check out station
- Retrieves refill messages at least three (3) times per day and always before leaving in the evening. Calls in patient refills as per office policy
- Reviews patient’s charts for accuracy and completion (reports/referrals, etc.)
- Records and notifies patients of test results. Coordinates follow-up visit as required.
Additional:
- Responsible for following and monitoring OSHA & CLIA guidelines/regulations at all times
- Fully stocks all exam rooms (inventory listing in all rooms)
- Assists business office with special projects on an as needed basis during downtime
- Maintains an adequate inventory of drugs and medical supplies; placing orders as needed
- Maintains log of suppliers, pricing and pharmaceutical/medical representatives. Meets with company representatives
- Ensures all equipment is maintained per appropriate regulations/guidelines
- Participates in continuing education and other appropriate experiences to maintain and enhance professional education
- Maintains patient confidentiality 100% of the time; demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information - adherence to all HIPAA guidelines
- Maintains an organized and clean work area
Qualifications (Please Read)
- Medical Assistant Certification
- Knowledge of professional medical assisting theory and practice to give and evaluate patient care.
- Skilled in the techniques of professional medical assisting to provide patient care. Knowledge of medical equipment and instruments to administer care.
- Perception necessary to observe pertinent detail when reading thermometers, blood pressure devices, other equipment gauges and to observe patient's condition.
- Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment.
- Ability to maintain quality control standards.
- Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures.
- Skilled in identifying problems and recommending solutions.
- Strong positive interpersonal skills; can effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
- High degree of initiative and sense of organization.
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $22.00 - $24.00 per hour

- Ability to accurately take and record vital signs
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced healthcare environment
